Ejuona League

The Girdle derives its name from a local adage that asserts the indispensability of Ejuona to any Igbo community; a community lacking Ejuona is akin to one without a protective girdle around its loins (Obodo Igbo obula na-enweghi Ejuona enweghi eriri n'úme). This Journal is uniquely significant because of the comprehensive coverage it gives to some key issues that are of great concern to Ejuona people and other global issues it discussed. It is the frst of its kind in Ejuona, and it serves as a medium through which Ejuona intellectuals could express their thoughts and contribute their views on topical issues affecting humanity.

The Content

The Girdle is a pioneering effort to document the history, lineage, and current lifestyle of the people of Ejuona Aku in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Enugu State, Nigeria. It is authored by both experienced Ejuona writers and young researchers who have delved deeper into the community's history. The volume aims to bridge the gap created by the fading relevance of oral tradition, caused by the influence of Western culture and the migration of youth. The publication seeks to rejuvenate the understanding of Ejuona Aku's heritage and is the first in a series of volumes dedicated to this endeavor.

  • PART I: HISTORY OF EJUONA AKU
    This part explores the history of Ejuona Aku. Chapter One delves into the historical origin of Eyi-Oshigo Aju, presented by Chief S. O. Ezike, Mr. Anthony Odo, and Malachy N. O. Ajima, PhD. This is followed by Chapter Two's exploration of the Ugwuegede Enugwu history by Hon. Titus Ejili. Chapter Three sheds light on the history of Ugwunagbor Ezenechi, contributed by Nzuteigbo Nick Egbe (FIIA), Prof. Joe Onu, and Dr. A. C. Okwor. Subsequent chapters continue with detailed histories of Orda Diododo and Umuehelete Oshigo in Ejuona Aku, presented by Mr. Ifeanyi Nnadili Agu (CNA) and Barr. Sunday Odoh respectively.
  • PART II to IV: EXPLORING EJUONA AKU'S CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND POLITICAL LANDSCAPE
    In the second part of the series, titled "RELIGION & CULTURE," Chapter Six delves into the intricate Culture and Tradition of the Ejuona Man. Dr. A. C. Okwor critically examines aspects to retain and those to discard. Transitioning to "EDUCATION" in Part III, Chapter Seven by Malachy N. O. Ajima, PhD, reflects on the historical journey of the Ejuona Man with Western Education. Prof. J. E. Onu, in Chapter Eight, emphasizes the essential facets of 21st-century education that the Ejuona Man should be acquainted with. Lastly, in "POLITICS" under Part IV, Chapter Nine by J. I. J. Okwor, PhD, provides a comprehensive overview of the Ejuona Man's role and evolution in Aku Politics over time.
  • PART V to X: EXPLORING DIVERSE THEMES: A GLIMPSE INTO YOUTH EMPOWERMENT, SECURITY, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, AGRICULTURE, HEALTH, AND LEGACY
    This compilation delves into multifaceted topics shaping contemporary society. From Arinze Prince Nnadi's advocacy for instilling visionary mindsets in youths to Elder Ben Amadi's insights on security in Ejuona, the chapters offer varied perspectives. Sir John Ezike and Nnenna Maryrita Akah spotlight entrepreneurship as a catalyst against unemployment, while Chief S. O. Ezike and Dr. Chijioke Josephine Onwuzurike focus on agriculture's significance. Furthermore, health concerns, particularly Hepatitis B, are addressed by Pharm. Kenneth Abaeme. Lastly, the posthumous profiles, such as Prof. Clement I. Anekwe's tribute to Pius Didigwu Anekwe, and Comrade Emma Ugbor Nwani's narrative on Barr. James Eze Nwozor, encapsulate legacies and resilience.
